broadbandtrends publishes Global Fixed Broadband Subscriber Forecast
broadbandtrends recently published its latest Global Fixed Broadband Subscriber Forecast for 2008-2014 entitled "Global Fixed Broadband Subscribers to Reach 636 million by 2014"
Executive Summary
Global fixed broadband subscribers
are expected to grow from 399 million at the end of 2008 to more than 636
million by the end of 2014, representing a CAGR of 8 percent. Global penetration
of households will reach 35 percent during this period. Continued growth is
being driven by strong regulatory and government initiatives that are helping to
accelerate broadband availability; while innovative services and applications
such as IP-TV and FMC combined with lower prices will continue to drive
adoption. From a regional perspective, CALA, Southeast Asia, and Eastern Europe
will have the strongest growth.
DSL will remain the dominant broadband technology throughout the forecast
period, with 61 percent of total fixed broadband subscribers. FTTH will offer
the strongest growth opportunity with 25 percent CAGR, while cable will be the
lowest at 4 percent. Of the alternative broadband technologies, WiMAX holds the
most promise for widespread deployment, but will continued to be challenged by
advances in mobile broadband technology delivered over 3G and 4G networks. It is
expected that emerging markets will be more likely to migrate to mobile
broadband rather than fixed broadband technologies.
Major Report Highlights include the following:
Global Fixed Broadband Subscribers will reach 636 million by end of 2014
Global Penetration of Households will reach 35 percent; Western Europe will be 77 percent

The “sweet-spot”
for Other technologies (Satellite, WiMAX, BPL) will focus on rural and

technologies
