BBWFE: Italtel Launches Service Enablers Suite
Italtel launched at BBWF Europe 2008 its
new Service Enablers Suite based on three Service Enablers called Italtel
Presence Server, Italtel Group and List Management Service Enabler, Italtel
Aggregation Proxy.
Consumers and prosumers require the ability of accessing and generating
different services simultaneously on any device. They demand mobility, control
over their communication needs, as well as innovative, rich, multimedia services
mixing voice, video, and data with a dependable quality of service. As prosumers,
they want to create and personalize their own services and share them with
communities thanks to the building blocks made available by service providers.
An innovative and unified service layer is therefore necessary to efficiently
deliver convergent services and All Play (voice, broadband data, wireless, and
video) services, as well as to manage and optimize the complexity.
With this announcement Italtel confirms its strategy in the Unified Service
Layer that was anticipated by the launch, at BBWF Europe 2007, of its first
Service Enabler called The Service Box. This software platform, that was awarded
the Infovision Award - Category New Product Concept promoted by IEC
(International Engineering Consortium), has gained more and more traction among
Italtel International customers and is currently in operation or under trial in
the networks of several large companies or Telco operators.
The Service Layer is the nerve centre of the telecommunications industry: it is
the level at which network intelligence is currently concentrated - and it will
be even more so in the future. Italtel's strategy aims at creating a unified
service platform capable of supporting and optimizing management and delivery of
telephone services and innovative multimedia services, suitable for all types of
users. This is a conceptual leap, representing a real evolution towards the
integration and convergence of traditional telecommunication networks,
innovative multimedia telecommunication networks, as NGN and IMS, and Internet,
IT and Web 2.0 environments.
Thanks to its Service Enablers Suite, Italtel offers its customers the
possibility to integrate information and data retrieved from different networks
and environment, as Telco and IT world, and to enhance emerging services based
on presence and group management functionalities.
"The convergence of Telco and IT is radically reshaping business models and
competitive borders, creating a continually-changing scenario for both products
and services," said Franco Serio, CTO at Italtel. "Italtel's strategy in the
Service Layer enables full and seamless Telco/IT/Internet convergence and
adoption of open business models in the telecom. The key benefits deriving from
the adoption of this new business and architectural model are: greater coherence
in networks architecture, optimization and integration; possibility to handle in
an easier way the complexity of service creation, orchestration and deployment;
greater efficiency and efficacy in service creation and deployment."
Italtel re-defines the services in telecommunication environment as self-defined
and self-consistent units that activate certain actions, and can be accessed
from the network via well-defined open interfaces allowing well-specified
actions either to end-user or to network elements.
Italtel Service Enablers Suite is composed by:
Italtel Presence Server (i-PS). It is the enabler responsible for
managing real-time information regarding user availability, capability, and
willingness to communicate. It aggregates presence information from a broad
range of sources, including devices, network elements and applications, as well
as external presence providers.
Italtel Group and List Management Service Enabler (i-GLM). It is
the enabler responsible for storing, maintaining and managing group information
(such as contact lists, group lists and access lists) in a central
(network-based) location. Group information, represented through XML documents,
can be reused and shared across multiple applications and services.
Italtel Aggregation Proxy (i-AP). It is the front-end for
accessing enabler's specific and shared XDMS over http based interfaces; it
provides authentication and TLS support for the XDM clients accessing XDM
servers.
Another Italtel Service Layer product is:
Italtel The Service Box (TSB).
It is designed and developed to make advanced communication services available
to Service Providers and Large Enterprises, completely independently of the
terminals used by the end user (GPRS/WiFi, PC, TV set-top box) and of the type
of network (PSTN, GPRS, UMTS, IP) interconnected with The Service Box.
