One Communications selects Zhone for Pure-Play Migration

Zhone Technologies announced that One Communications has selected Zhone’s MALC(™) Multi-Service Access Platform (MSAP) to deliver voice, Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM), and tiered DSL business services throughout a 16 state region.

“We were attracted by Zhone’s leadership in multi-service provisioning,” said Greg Floerke, executive vice president of operations and engineering for One Communications. “This expertise, coupled with its advanced platform intelligence, superior redundancy, and the ability to support rapid migration to pure-IP networking, make Zhone the ideal partner to deliver our advanced business services to customers.”

With headquarters in Rochester, N.Y., and Waltham, Mass., One Communications is the largest privately held competitive local exchange carrier in the U.S. The company provides corporate class communications services to more than 160,000 small and mid-sized businesses in 16 states throughout the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Upper Midwest regions. One Communications operates a vast next-generation network architected on an all IP core that uses 11,000 route miles of fiber to interconnect more than 700 collocation sites.

“Zhone enables us to provision core business services, including EFM, DSL, and telco-grade voice, from a single platform while retaining a high degree of network agility,” added Aaron Bruneau, vice president of engineering for One Communications. “Zhone is pushing edge intelligence deeper into the access network, which also presents new opportunities for networked content and future-proof business services.”

“One Communications is recognized for its proactive response to evolving customer needs and market demands,” said Steven Glapa, Zhone’s vice president of marketing and product management. “Zhone is committed to giving One Communications best-in-class platform technologies to deliver premium value access services to its customers quickly, efficiently and affordably.”

One Communications is the combination of CTC Communications, ChoiceOne Communications and Conversant Communications.
